Ukraine proposes imposing sanctions on Syrian regime for 50 years
Economic relations with Syria will be terminated for a long time, says economy minister
KYIV, Ukraine (AA) – The Ukrainian government proposed the implementation of sectoral sanctions against the Syrian regime for five decades, the country’s economy minister said Friday.
“Today, the Government has proposed a final tough but absolutely adequate response to Syria’s position – the imposition of sectoral sanctions against the country for a period of 50 years,” Yuliia Svyrydenko said in a statement.
Therefore, the issue of economic relations with Syria will be terminated for a long time, she added.
The Cabinet of Ministers endorsed a decision to submit proposals to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to introduce sanctions against Syria.
The government-backed sanctions envisage the prohibition of import and export operations with regime citizens, businesses and investments in the regime.
The proposal will take effect after the approval by the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council and the president.
