Ukraine says 2 killed, 8 injured due to Russian airstrike in eastern Donetsk region

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Wednesday that at least two people were killed and eight others injured due to a Russian airstrike in the country’s eastern Donetsk region.
“At least two people were killed and eight were injured — these are the consequences of the morning strike on Kostiantynivka,” Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin said in a statement on Telegram.
Claiming that Moscow launched three aerial bombs on the city situated near the front line between Russia and Ukraine, Filashkin said one of those injured is in serious condition.
The governor further said that the attack damaged 16 private houses, three high-rise buildings, and a car.
Separately, the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office said through the US social media platform Facebook that the attack took place at 10.25 am local time (0725GMT), and those affected by the strike have been provided with medical assistance.
The industrial city has been regularly targeted by Russian airstrikes due to its proximity to the front, and is situated about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) south of Kramatorsk, the administrative center of the Donetsk region since Moscow captured the Donetsk city in 2014.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its forces “defeated” Ukrainian troops near five settlements in the Donetsk region, including Kostiantynivka.
However, Russian authorities have not commented on the attack.
