ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Monday that at least four people were killed and 13 others injured in an overnight Russian drone attack on the northeastern city of Kharkiv.
“According to preliminary data, four people were killed and at least 13 were injured, two of them children,” said a statement by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service on Telegram, reporting that the city’s Shevchenkivskyi and Saltivskyi districts were targeted.
In a morning statement, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov claimed that a total of 15 drones were launched on the city overnight.
“In Kharkiv, seven private houses, an apartment building, power grids, a civil enterprise, four cars, and an educational institution building were damaged,” Synyehubov added.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed in a later statement on Telegram that its air defenses shot down 125 of 162 various types of drones launched by Russia.
“Civilian infrastructure facilities and private households in the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions were most affected,” the statement added.
Situated about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Russian border, Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv has been regularly targeted by airstrikes amid the ongoing three-and-a-half-year war.
Local authorities in the Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions did not report any casualties.
Russia has not immediately commented on the attack, though its Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 93 Ukrainian drones launched toward the country overnight, of which 45 were downed over the border region of Belgorod.
