Ukrainian drone attack puts on fire Russian fuel storage facilities in Smolensk region

Air raid did not cause any casualties, Ukrainian outlets term attack intelligence operation

MOSCOW (AA) - A Ukrainian drone attack put on fire fuel storage facilities in Russia's western Smolensk region, its governor said on Wednesday.

"Again our region is under attack of the Ukrainian drones. ... The enemy's attack in the Smolensky and Yartsevsky districts put on fire civilian fuel and energy facilities. The Emergency Situations Ministry is eliminating the consequences on the spot. Please remain calm and do not panic," Vasily Anokhin wrote on Telegram.

The governor said the air raid did not cause any casualties, and the relevant services are working to establish all circumstances of the incident.

Ukraine's media outlets, quoting sources in the Security Service (SBU), reported that the attack was a Ukrainian intelligence operation.

"The SBU continues to effectively destroy the military infrastructure and logistics that provide fuel to the Russian army in Ukraine. These targets are and will remain our completely legitimate goals," the sources said.

Some 26,000 cubic meters of fuel was said to be stored at the facilities targeted.
