Ukrainian man charged with arson after fire at UK premier's house

LONDON (AA) - A Ukrainian national has been charged with arson following a fire at Prime Minister Keir Starmer's properties, Metropolitan Police said Thursday.

Roman Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian national, has been charged with "three counts of arson with intent to endanger life," the police said in a statement.

The charges relate to three separate incidents: a vehicle fire on May 8, a fire at the entrance of a property on May 11, and another fire at a residential address in the early hours of May 12, said police, adding all incidents took place in North West London.

Lavrynovych was arrested on May 13 and has remained in custody after warrants for further detention were obtained, said the statement.

It noted that the investigation into the incidents is led by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Lavrynovych is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 16.
