Ukrainian official meets with working group on Kyiv’s accession to OECD

Meeting focuses on feedback from OECD on concept of draft law, its development, says head of Ukraine’s presidential office

ISTANBUL (AA) - The head of Ukraine’s presidential office held a meeting Wednesday in the nation’s capital with members of the working group on Kyiv’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

“We discussed the progress of work on the draft law on the liability of legal entities for international bribery. The introduction of efficient and effective anti-corruption mechanisms is one of the conditions for our country's participation in the OECD Working Group on Combating Bribery,” Andriy Yermak said in a message on Telegram.

Yermak said the meeting focused on two key areas, namely feedback from the OECD regarding the concept of the draft law and its development.

"We have to discuss how to work with this category of crimes and decide whether the draft law meets the ideas and recommendations of the OECD, what needs to be changed and what to add,” he said.

He also said they agreed to hear the expert opinions of representatives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).

The OECD, which was established under its current name in 1961 but initially in 1948, is made up of 38 member states and aims to stimulate economic progress and global trade. Russia and Belarus' participation in OECD bodies was suspended following the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Last October, the OECD announced the start of an initial dialogue regarding the accession of Ukraine to the organization.
