Tuesday's strikes were "biggest attack in the history of Ukraine's energy sector," says national energy company Ukrenergo

ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said early on Wednesday that power supply had been mostly restored after Tuesday’s strikes by Russian forces.

During a morning address shared on his Telegram account, Zelenskyy also wished his citizens a good day “without rocket attacks.”

Earlier, Ukraine’s national energy company Ukrenergo announced in a statement that their staff had begun restoring power to consumers and were repairing damaged networks and power plants.

Declaring the attacks on Tuesday as “the biggest attack in the history of Ukraine's energy sector,” Ukrenergo said it will work “around the clock” to maintain the flow of electricity to households.

Ukrenergo further noted in the statement that the next few days will be difficult due to incoming cold weather, which will increase the consumption of electricity.

“Accordingly, the load on the networks will also increase. Therefore, please understand the shutdowns that will be implemented as necessary, and also do not leave the habit of using electricity sparingly,” the statement added.

Three residential buildings were hit in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Tuesday killing a civilian, as nationwide air alerts sounded across the country.

Officials also reported explosions in multiple cities including Rivne, Lviv, Vinnytsia, and Kovel.

Russia's war on Ukraine has entered its ninth month and has resulted in the deaths of 6,557 civilians and injured 10,074 others, according to the latest UN estimates.
