UK's Andy Murray claims second Wimbledon title
World number 2 beats Canadian sixth seed Milos Raonic in straight sets
LONDON (AA) - Britain’s Andy Murray claimed his second Wimbledon championship after defeating Canadian sixth seed Milos Raonic.
Murray defeated Raonic 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) to reach the Men’s Singles title, the third grand slam of his career and his first in three years.
“This is the most important tournament for me every year. I've had some great moments here but also some tough losses; the wins feels extra special because of the tough losses,” he told the BBC after receiving the champions’ trophy.
“I played really good stuff today. Milos has had a great few weeks on the grass and had some unbelievable wins, that semi-final against Roger was a great, great match.”
Raonic had reached the final after eliminating six-time winner Roger Federer in the semi-finals earlier in the week. World number one Novak Djokovic was eliminated earlier in the tournament.
Murray’s victory came hours after fellow Scotsman Gordon Reid won the first ever Wimbledon men’s wheelchair singles title, defeating Sweden’s Stefan Olsson in straight sets.
The women’s singles title was won by world number one Serena Williams on Saturday.
