HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday condemned overnight missile and drone strikes by Russia on Ukrainian cities, “which killed and injured many civilians, including children."
Noting that the attacks also struck facilities belonging to diplomatic delegations and offices in Kyiv, a statement by spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the "attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law, are unacceptable and must end immediately."
Urging a ceasefire that could pave the way to a lasting solution, Guterres "renews his call for a ceasefire that results in a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine – one that fully upholds Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, within its internationally recognized borders, in line with the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions," it said.
