GENEVA (AA) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Wednesday that more than 200,000 people will be affected by Hurricane Beryl, which is ripping through the southeast Caribbean.
"Over 200,000 people are likely to be affected by Hurricane Beryl, with many on the risk of displacement due to destroyed infrastructure," the IOM said on X.
The agency said it, along with partners, is on the ground assessing the immediate needs of those impacted.
Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the southeastern Caribbean as a powerful Category 4 storm, subsequently crossing the islands en route to Jamaica. The storm has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals.
According to the World Meteorological Organization, the storm has weakened to Category 4.
