ISTANBUL (AA) - The UN special rapporteur on Palestine said Sunday Madleen flotilla aiming to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian supplies is carrying not only aid, but also “the humanity they carry.”
Francesca Albanese said the sailing boat operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is en route to Gaza and is expected to arrive on Monday.
“The Flotilla Giants are approaching Gaza, scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It is not only the aid, it is the HUMANITY THEY CARRY,” Albanese said on X.
She urged Israel not to endanger the lives of activists aboard the vessel, referencing past flotilla missions that were met with force. “For all of us. May Israel not endanger them as with the previous flotilla. MAY THIS BE THE TIME ISRAEL LAYS DOWN THE GENOCIDAL MACHINERY,” she added.
As part of the latest mission organized by the FFC to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver aid to the region, the 18-meter sailing boat Madleen set sail for Gaza on June 1 from the Port of San Giovanni Li Cuti in Catania, Sicily, Italy.
The ship is carrying urgently needed supplies for the people of Gaza, including baby formula, flour, rice, diapers, women’s sanitary products, water desalination kits, medical supplies, crutches, and children’s prosthetics, according to its organizers.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the military to prevent the vessel from reaching Gaza.
