UN Security Council condemns Manchester terror attack

NEW YORK (AA) - The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday "condemned in the strongest terms" a deadly terror attack in the U.K. city of Manchester.

The Council called the attack "barbaric and cowardly" and extended condolences to victims' families; it also reaffirmed the global struggle against terrorism.

Earlier on Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a condemnation on the "horrific" attack, expressing sympathy with the people and government of the U.K.

At least 22 people were killed and 59 others injured on Monday night when a man detonated a device in the foyer area of the Manchester Arena at the end of a pop concert.

U.K. police later identified the suspected suicide bomber as 22-year-old Salman Abedi.
