UN Security Council renews mandate of Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate

Draft resolution, penned by US, extends CTED's mandate until Jan. 5, 2029

By Merve Aydogan

HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - The UN Security Council on Monday renewed the mandate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) for three years.

The resolution, submitted by the US, extends CTED's mandate until Jan. 5, 2029.

Without making any changes to the mandate's tasks or priorities, the resolution drew unanimous support, with all 15 council members voting in favor.

Speaking after the vote, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce welcomed the adoption and said: "Although this mandates renewal cycle differs from the last few mandate renewals, it reflects and aligns with the United States' position that all UN special political missions must have more regular oversight to ensure their work remains focused and effective."
