Union of International Democrats hosts iftar event in London

LONDON (AA) - The Turkish community gathered Sunday at an iftar, or fast-breaking meal, organized by the Union of International Democrats (UID) in London.

Türkiye's Ambassador to the UK Osman Koray Ertas, Consul General to London Bekir Utku Atahan and Erdal Yetimova, the chairman of UID UK, were among the attendees at the event along with Turkish people living in London.

The fast-breaking meal for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was held at Aziziye Mosque in Stoke Newington and started with the recitation of verses from the holy Quran.

Later, speaking at the event, Ambassador Ertas mentioned last month's devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and wished Allah's mercy upon those who lost their lives.

He said that along with the Turkish community, other Muslim communities in the UK and British people mobilized to help quake-hit victims in Türkiye.

Ertas also thanked the UID and Aziziye Mosque for organizing the event.

For his part, Yetimova mentioned Turkish associations' efforts to help quake victims since the first moment.

He said relief efforts and campaigns will continue to heal the wounds, adding they were also raising money as part of the iftar event.
