UPDATE - 1 killed, 9 injured in Russian strike on Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk

ISTANBUL/MOSCOW (AA) - At least one person was killed and nine injured in a Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk, the governor of the Donetsk region said Tuesday.

"The number of victims of the morning attack on Kramatorsk increased to one dead and seven wounded. The Russians hit the city center with a rocket, damaging nine high-rise buildings, kindergartens, an Oschadbank building and two civilian cars," Pavlo Kyrylenko said in a message on Facebook.

Kyrylenko said municipal services and police are on the scene of the strike.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a statement earlier that said at least one person was killed and three were injured.

"Kramatorsk. A Russian missile hit the city center. Six high-rise buildings were damaged. At least three people were injured. One person died. My condolences to the family," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

Russia launched what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022.

Now in its second year, the war has killed 8,231 civilians and wounded 13,734 others, according to the latest UN figures.
