WASHINGTON (AA) - Two members of the U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition in Syria were killed and five others wounded by an improvised explosive device, the U.S. military announced Friday.
One of the deceased was an American and the attack was conducted near the city of Manbij in northern Syria, according to U.S. media reports citing unnamed Pentagon officials.
"Wounded personnel received immediate care and are being evacuated for further medical treatment," Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF–OIR) said in a statement.
Further details on the attack will not be released until the military can conduct an investigation, the statement added.
Coalition spokesman Col. Ryan Dillon told Anadolu Agency earlier that the nationalities of the deceased and the exact location of the attack would not be disclosed until their families are informed.
But a spokesperson for Britain’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that the other soldier was British and was operating with U.S. forces against Daesh.
There are approximately 2,000 American troops in Manbij.
