Death toll from devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake rises to 912 in Türkiye

UPDATES WITH STATEMENTS FROM OMAN, JORDAN

ISTANBUL (AA) - Arab countries on Monday extended condolences to Türkiye and Syria over the deadly earthquake that left hundreds of victims in both countries.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday conveyed its sincere condolences and solidarity with Türkiye and Syria on the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit both countries earlier on Monday.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed its readiness to provide help in the face of the terrible earthquake catastrophe.

The head of Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani, on Monday expressed sympathy with Türkiye and Syria over the earthquake.

"I extend my condolences to the victims' families and loved ones, and wish a quick recovery to the wounded," Barzani said in a statement.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also extended its condolences to Türkiye and Syria on the devastating earthquake that left hundreds of victims in both countries along with the huge destruction it caused.

Ambassador Ahmed Al-Deek, political advisor to the foreign minister, said: "The Palestinian Embassy in Damascus reported the collapse of two buildings in Al-Raml camp in Lattakia and a retaining wall in Al-Neirab camp in Aleppo, which led to the killing of 8 citizens, including 3 children."

The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Türkiye issued a statement saying it is following up on the earthquake that hit Kahramanmaras Monday and the affected regions, and that it is in contact with the relevant official authorities to check on the Omani citizens.

Jordan offered its condolences to Türkiye and Syria amid the deadly earthquake.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement "its warmest condolences and sincere sympathy to the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Türkiye for the victims of the earthquake that occurred at dawn Monday, and resulted in a number of victims and injuries.”

According to Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, the death toll from the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Türkiye rose to 912, along with 5,385 injured people.

At least 326 people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in Syria, according to the Health Ministry, while Syrian Civil Defense said fatalities rose to 150 in northwestern Syria.
