ZEIST, Netherlands (AA) - Fenerbahce boss Dick Advocaat has been unveiled as the Dutch national team’s manager for a third time.
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) made the announcement in the city of Zeist on Tuesday.
Despite earlier claims Advocaat could take up his new role as early as May 18 -- leaving Fenerbache without a manager for the rest of their season -- a later KNVB statement said the Dutchman’s job would start on June 9.
The Netherlands will take on Luxembourg at home on June 9 in a World Cup qualification stage Group A match.
Fenerbahce has yet to make a statement on the issue.
The Netherlands fired previous head coach Danny Blind after a World Cup qualification group stage loss to Bulgaria on March 26.
Sixty-nine-year-old Advocaat has managed many teams throughout his career, including the Dutch, Belgian, Russian and Serbian national sides, as well as PSV Eindhoven, Glasgow Rangers and Sunderland.
Former Dutch star Ruud Gullit was also named as assistant coach.
