KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok on Monday escaped without injury after his convoy came under attack, according to security sources.
A roadside bomb exploded as his convoy passed the Kober bridge, which connects the north of capital Khartoum to the city center, eye witnesses said.
No casualties were reported, but some vehicles of the convoy were damaged.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Hamdok said he is in good health.
"This revolution is protected by its peaceful approach […] for a better tomorrow and sustainable peace," Hamdok said, referring to the uprising that led to the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir.
"What happened will not stop the movement for change," he said, in reference to the attack on his life.
The Sudanese Council of Ministers has announced that an investigation was launched into the assassination bid.
The former ruling National Congress, for its part, condemned the attack.
"The assassination attempt does not reflect the values of the Sudanese people, and we condemn what happened," the National Congress said.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum "strongly condemned" the attack.
"We are deeply saddened and shocked by the heinous attack," the embassy said in a Twitter post.
The embassy voiced solidarity with the Sudanese people.
The U.S. Embassy in Sudan also said it is "shocked and saddened at the attack on Sudan Prime Minister's convoy."
The embassy expressed support to "Sudan's civilian-led transitional government," and its "solidarity with the Sudanese people."
Irfan Siddiq, the British ambassador to Sudan, voiced also his country's support to the transitional government in Sudan.
"This is a deeply worrying event which must be investigated fully," Siddiq said on Twitter.
