BAGHDAD/ISTANBUL (AA) - Three people were injured in the Iraqi southern city of Basra after two missile warheads fell in residential areas, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command reported early Sunday.
A 3-meter (10-foot) missile warhead struck a building near the Qibla Clinic, injuring three residents, while a second warhead fell on a house in the Qibla area of the Muhandisin district, causing minor property damage but no injuries.
Security officials have secured both sites and launched investigations to determine the circumstances and take necessary measures.
The incidents come amid ongoing Iranian attacks in Iraq, reportedly in response to US-Israeli strikes against Iran.
Israel and the US launched military strikes against Iran early Saturday, under the name “Operation Lion’s Roar,” with US President Donald Trump announcing “large-scale combat operations” in Iran.
Separately, Iraqi authorities foiled an attack on a military base in the southern city of Nasiriyah.
Two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeted the base but were intercepted by anti-aircraft units of the army, and no casualties were reported.
A comprehensive investigation has been launched, and authorities said the matter is being handled within the legal framework.
