ISTANBUL (AA) – At least four people were killed and 20 others injured after two cars rammed into pedestrians in Japan and South Korea on Monday.

One person was killed and 10 others were injured on Monday after a car rammed into pedestrians in central Tokyo.

An 80-year-old man died in the incident, which police are investigating as a hit-and-run involving a stolen vehicle, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported. Officers are questioning a man believed to have been driving the car.

Police said the vehicle entered a crosswalk on a red light, veered onto the sidewalk and struck a guardrail with a loud crash.

The driver fled the scene on foot after the collision, authorities said.

Separately, three people were killed and 10 others injured after a van struck pedestrians and slammed into a signpost on an island off South Korea’s Jeju province.

A woman inside the vehicle and two pedestrians were pronounced dead after being airlifted to a nearby hospital, according to Seoul-based Yonhap News.

The driver and nine others were treated for minor injuries.
