At least 62 people have been killed and 90 others injured across Nepal in the past month as incessant monsoon rains triggered landslides and flash floods, local media reported Sunday.

Gandaki province has been the hardest hit, where many people were killed and several others went missing in Tanahun, Syangja and Parbat districts.

In the Thadapakha area of Parbat, landslides destroyed two homes and killed at least 13 goats and two buffaloes, Asian News International (ANI) reported.

Floods in Dolakha and Gorkha districts destroyed nine houses, eight hotels and two bridges, ANI said.

Flooding has also occurred in various areas of Madhesh province, it added.

Earlier on Sunday, local English daily The Kathmandu Post reported that floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains over the past 24 hours destroyed several houses and blocked key highways and roads across Nepal.

Major rivers across the country have been flooded, leaving many settlements at high risk. The Narayani and Rapti rivers in the north and west crossed the danger line on Saturday.

In southeastern Nepal, the Koshi River, which causes deadly floods in the eastern Indian state of Bihar almost every year, was also flowing above the danger level.

A landslide struck a house in Syangja district on Saturday afternoon, burying three people.

In the capital Kathmandu, several rivers have overflown their banks, flooding roads and inundating many houses.

Local broadcasters showed people wading through waist-deep water and residents using buckets to empty their houses.
