UPDATE - Children's hospital destroyed by Russian strikes, says city council of Ukraine's Mariupol

UPDATE WITH REMARKS FROM UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT

ANKARA (AA) - A children's hospital in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol has been destroyed by Russian airstrikes, local officials announced on Wednesday.

The Mariupol city council said the Russian forces dropped several bombs and shared a photo on Telegram of the site where one of the bombs was dropped.

"Mariupol. Direct strike of Russian troops at the maternity hospital. People, children are under the wreckage. Atrocity! How much longer will the world be an accomplice ignoring terror? Close the sky right now! Stop the killings! You have power but you seem to be losing humanity," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on Telegram.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The Russia-Ukraine war has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow, and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia, including McDonald's and Starbucks over the last 24 hours.

At least 474 civilians have been killed and 864 others injured in Ukraine since Russia launched a war against its neighbor, according to UN figures, with the real toll feared to be higher.

More than 2.1 million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to the UN refugee agency.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
