UPDATE - France's annual inflation rises to record 6.2% in October

Inflation driven by acceleration in prices of food, energy, manufactured goods, statistical body says

ISTANBUL (AA) - France's annual inflation rate was at 6.2% in October, the highest since 1985, driven by energy and food prices, official figures showed on Tuesday.

According to France's statistical authority Insee's data, the annual inflation was up from 5.6% in September.

"This increase in inflation resulted from the acceleration in food prices, energy prices and manufactured good prices," it added.

Energy, food and manufactured goods prices were up by 19.1%, 12% and 4.2%, respectively, on a yearly basis.

The country's monthly inflation was at 1%, Insee added.

After three consecutive months of decline, the prices of energy rebounded by 5.8% on a monthly basis in October.

"Year on year, core inflation grew by 5.0% in October, after 4.5% in September," Insee said.
