UPDATE - Iran arrests 8 suspects over Tehran terror attacks

TEHRAN (AA) – Iranian security forces on Saturday detained eight suspects in connection to deadly twin terrorist attacks earlier this week.

The suspects were detained in Alborz province, north of Tehran, Ahmed Fazelian, a spokesman for the province's prosecution, told the official IRNA news agency.

He said the arrests are part of investigations into the attacks Wednesday.

The number of suspects rounded up in the wake of the attacks now stand at 49.

Security Minister Mahmoud Alavi said on local television the person who commanded the attack was killed by an intelligence crew Saturday.

On Friday, the Ministry of Intelligence said it had arrested 41 suspects linked to the Daesh terrorist group.

At least 22 people were killed and scores injured in the attacks claimed by Daesh on the parliament building and the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.
