ISTANBUL (AA) - Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shelled positions of the Daesh terrorist group in eastern Syria’s Deir Ez-Zor province, according to the Iranian television Monday.

The IRGC fired ballistic missiles the in Albu-Kamal area in retaliation for an attack on a military parade that killed at least 25 people in Ahvaz last month.

The Fars news agency said the missiles were fired from Iran’s western province of Kermanshah.

On Sept. 22, Iranian media reported gunmen wearing army uniforms opened fire on Iranian military personnel taking part in a parade, killing at least 25 people.

The military activity by the IRGC came under heavy criticism from the U.S., who called it "reckless, unsafe and escalatory".

"The Coalition is more than capable of defeating the remnants of ISIS in the Middle Euphrates River Valley," said Pentagon spokesman Cmdr. Sean Robertson.

While no coalition forces were harmed, such strikes such have the potential to hurt forces currently fighting Daesh fighters in Syria, according to the spokesman.

Robertson noted Iran did not take measures to coordinate and de-conflict their operations, which helps make sure no danger is caused to other forces in the area.
