ISTANBUL(AA) - Seven people were wounded in an Israeli drone strike late Wednesday in southern Lebanon in the latest violation of a ceasefire in place since November 2024, Lebanese media reported.
The attack targeted a car in the al-Housh area east of Tyre, the state-owned National News Agency (NNA) reported, citing Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center.
The strike also damaged a house located opposite the targeted site, while Israeli drones continued to fly over Tyre, the broadcaster said.
“A short while ago, the Israeli army struck Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure, weapon storage facilities and a rocket launcher in southern Lebanon,” the army said in a statement.
“The presence of the weapons storage facilities, the terrorist infrastructure and the launcher that were struck constituted a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” it added.
Israel launched a military offensive in Lebanon on Oct. 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring around 17,000.
A ceasefire was reached in November, but Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah activities.
Under the truce, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply.
Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
