UPDATE - Opposition vice chair wounded in armed attack in SW

Bulent Tezcan, CHP deputy leader, shot in leg by 2 armed men in Aydin, Turkey's southwest

ADDS THE ARREST SUSPECT IN THE ATTACK

AYDIN, Turkey (AA) – A suspect in an armed attack on the vice chair of Turkey’s main opposition party has been apprehended, the Aydin governor’s office announced Saturday night.

“One person suspected to be one of perpetrators involved in the armed assault on the opposition deputy chair was apprehended in the Kusadasi district of Aydin. The suspect identified as Alparslan S. is to be sent to the Aydin police station following his testimony,” said a governor’s office statement.

Earlier, Governor Omer Faruk Kocak told Anadolu Agency that two attackers are being sought for the attack at a restaurant in Aydin, the capital of the southwestern province of the same name.

Bulent Tezcan main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy as well as vice chair, was attacked by two armed men while dining with party members in the city center.

Tezcan was shot in the leg and rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Kamil Okyay Sindir, the party’s secretary general, told Anadolu Agency that Tezcan is in good condition and should recover.
