JERUSALEM (AA) - A Palestinian man on Friday succumbed to his wounds after he was shot by Israeli forces over stabbing a police officer in the occupied East Jerusalem, according to local health authorities.
The Palestinian man was seriously injured by the Israeli police for allegedly attempting a knife attack in the Old City of East Jerusalem, Israel’s Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital said in a statement.
After being seriously injured by the Israeli police, Hazem al-Julani, a Palestinian medical doctor, was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in West Jerusalem for treatment, according to Palestinian media.
Earlier, an Israeli police statement said that al-Julani was injured and arrested after it said he stabbed an Israeli police officer and slightly injured him in Alnnazir Gate, one of the doors of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, inside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli police immediately closed the gates of the Old City.
