SIIRT, Turkey (AA) – Two PKK terrorists were "neutralized" Tuesday by Turkish police in an operation held in the southeastern province of Siirt.
Police sources told Anadolu Agency the province's anti-terror branch performed an operation at a house where authorities were previously informed that a group of terrorists were preparing for an attack.
Refusing to surrender after warnings, the terrorists inside the house threw grenades at police.
The terrorists were "neutralized" in the clash and police tightened security measures in the area.
Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" to imply the terrorists in question were captured or killed.
Siirt security department issued a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying the two terrorists "killed" in the operation were the perpetrators of July 27 bomb attack in Siirt, which martyred three military staff members.
"Four hand grenades, a pistol and bomb-making equipment were seized in the operation as well," the statement added.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU and resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year against the Turkish state.
More than 300 civilians and nearly 800 security personnel have since been martyred. Around 8,000 PKK terrorists have been killed or apprehended.
