UPDATE - Police officer martyred after being accidentally shot

ANKARA (AA) - A police officer was accidentally shot during a security control in capital Ankara and was pronounced dead, the province’s police department said in a statement.

The incident came after the police officer made the suspected man get off a passenger bus, which was en route to Istanbul from southeastern Siirt province, during a security control.

The statement said the suspect ran away and the police officer, whose name is not disclosed, was shot and martyred after a warning fire was opened during the police hunt.
