UPDATE - Russia plotted attacks on airlines globally, claims Polish premier

UPDATE WITH MORE REMARKS FROM POLAND'S PRIME MINISTER

WARSAW (AA) - Russia plotted terror attacks on airlines globally, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk claimed in Warsaw on Wednesday.

"I can confirm that Russia planned acts of air terror, not just against Poland but against airlines globally," Tusk said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following their meeting in Warsaw.

Moscow has been accused of sabotaging European transport infrastructure as part of hybrid warfare by Vladimir Putin against the continent.

In April 2024, Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka warned that Russia had conducted "thousands of attempts" to attack European railways since the beginning of Moscow's full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022.​​​​​​​

- Ukraine’s EU accession process

Tusk also announced that Poland, which holds the rotating EU presidency until July 1, 2025, will leverage its term to advance Ukraine’s membership process.

He stated that the "stall" in Ukraine's membership process would be overcome. "We will accelerate the accession process," he added.

Poland has adopted "Security, Europe!" as its presidency slogan during its six-month term at the helm of the EU.

Also speaking at the press conference, Zelenskyy said they are "anticipating active joint work in the spirit of the peace through strength concept," following the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump in a few days.

He also thanked Tusk for the proposal to hold the next Ukraine Recovery Conference in Poland in 2026.

"Ukraine accepts this proposal and it is very important that Poland will be one of the key partners in the restoration of Ukraine," he said.
