TUNIS, Tunisia (AA) – A Tunisian security guard was killed in a stabbing attack outside Brazil’s embassy in the capital Tunis on Monday, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.
A ministry statement said the guard was stabbed by a sharp object “by a person he was questioning about the reason for his presence in the perimeter of the embassy.”
Ministry spokesman Faker Bouzghaya told the state news agency TAP that the guard died of his wounds.
He identified the attacker as a 53-year-old university professor suffering psychiatric disorders.
Bouzghaya, however, said the attacker had no political affiliations or links with terrorist groups.
According to the Interior Ministry, the attacker was shot in the leg and was taken into custody.
