WASHINGTON / ISTANBUL (AA) - Time Magazine selected an image produced by an Anadolu photojournalist for its cover photo to illustrate what it called "the Gaza tragedy" amid crippling starvation being inflicted on the besieged Palestinian territory.
Ali Jadallah's photo shows a group of malnourished Palestinian women assembled behind a gate in Gaza City, holding out pans and bowls in the hopes of receiving food. One woman is seen weeping, while others stare with piercing eyes from gaunt faces into the camera.
"AA Gaza photojournalist @alijadallah66 brings Israel's ongoing genocide policy in Gaza to the world through his lens," Anadolu Deputy Director General and Editor-in-Chief Yusuf Ozhan said in a statement on X, referring to Anadolu.
Jadallah has won multiple prizes at international photo competitions, and his work has been used in ongoing proceedings against Israel at the International Court of Justice over charges that the country's actions in the Gaza Strip constitute genocide. South Africa filed the case in December 2023.
The photograph, presented in court by Adila Hassim, one of the attorneys representing South Africa, depicts Khan Younis in an unrecognizable state, showing the massive destruction wrought by Israeli forces.

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 60,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed much of the enclave and led to acute food shortages.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 154 people have died of starvation since October 2023, including 89 children.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
