ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index hit a new all-time high as it closed Friday at 1,583.59 points, up 0.5% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,575.83 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index increased 7.92 points from Thursday's close of 1,575.67 points.

The BIST 100 closed at another record for the second day in row, while it also posted a record high weekly ending.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,568.82 points and its daily high was 1,586.59 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.24 trillion Turkish liras ($128.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 23.7 billion Turkish liras ($2.4 billion).

A total of 51 stocks on the index rose, while 43 fell and six remained unchanged compared to Thursday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lenders Garanti BBVA and oil refiner Tupras.

Shares of Ege Endustri (EGEEN), which manufactures components for the automotive industry, performed the best, rising 8.92%, while stocks of pharmaceutical firm Turk Ilac Serum ​​​​​​​dropped the most, 5.32%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,786.10 by market close, up from $1,779.40 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 2.3% to $82.42 per barrel as of 6.34 p.m. local time (1534GMT).
