UPDATE - Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up 1.84% at Thursday's close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,396.92 points on Thursday, up 1.84% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,385.05 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index rose 25.23 points from Wednesday's close of 1,371.69 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,385.05 points, while its daily high was 1,397.93 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.09 trillion Turkish liras ($123 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of almost 15 billion Turkish liras ($1.69 billion).

A total of 89 stocks on the index rose and 11 fell compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical firm Petkim, private lender Garanti BBVA, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of machinery parts producer Parsan performed the best, rising 5.19%, while stocks of pipe and tube producer Erbosan dropped the most, 4.61%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,759.05 by market close, up from $1,750.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.9% to $81.81 per barrel as of 6:55 p.m. local time (1555GMT).
