UPDATE - Turkiye's benchmark stock index flat at Friday close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkiye's benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul on Friday rose slightly by 0.09% to close at 2,494.37 points.

The BIST 100 index this week posted a decrease of 1.70%.

After starting the day at 2,437.15 points, the BIST 100 index climbed 2.13 points from Thursday's close of 2,428.42 points.

During the day’s trading, the index hovered between 2,404.69 and 2,442.79 points – 62 stocks on the index rose, 36 fell, and two were flat compared to the previous close.

It closed the day with a market value of around 2 trillion Turkish liras ($133.7 billion) and a daily trading volume of 34.9 billion Turkish liras ($2.4 billion).

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and glass manufacturer Sisecam posted the highest trading volumes on Friday.

Tiling firm Qua Granite was the best performer with its shares up 5.60%, while shares of natural gas distributor Baskent Dogalgaz dropped the most – 9.98%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,918.20 by market close, up from $1,892.90 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was $109.48 per barrel after a 2.27% daily loss as of 6.12 p.m. local time (1512GMT).
