UPDATE - Turkiye's Borsa Istanbul closes Friday with losses

ANKARA (AA) - Turkiye's benchmark stock index ended Friday at 1,943.81 points, down 0.72% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,969.73 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 14.09 points from Thursday's close of 1,957.90 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,936.97 points, while its daily high was 1,974.21.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.5 trillion Turkish liras ($115 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 19.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.45 billion).

During the final transaction day of the week, 28 stocks on the index rose, 69 fell, and three remained unchanged, compared to Thursday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Yapi Kredi, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.

Real estate investment firm Is Bankasi Gayrimenkul Yatirim was the best performer with its shares up 3.64%, while stocks of Is Yatirim Menkul Degerler A.S., the investment bank arm of Is Bankasi, saw the steepest fall -- 6.9%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,807, with a 0.14% gain at 6.19 p.m. local time (1519 GMT).

The price of Brent crude oil jumped 2.6% to $93.50 per barrel.
