UPDATE - Turkiye's Borsa Istanbul closes Tuesday lower

ANKARA (AA) – Turkiye's benchmark stock index ended lower on Tuesday at 2,079.38 points, down 0.44% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 2,087.29 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 9.10 points from Monday's close of 2,088.48 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 2,077.59 points, while its daily high was 2,101.28.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.7 trillion Turkish liras ($114.1 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 33.1 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

During the fourth transaction day of the week, 38 stocks on the index rose, 59 fell, and three remained unchanged compared to Monday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron and steel producer Kardemir and automaker Ford Otosan.

Automotive company Karsan was the best performer of the day with its shares up 5.91%, while supermarket chain Sok saw the biggest drop, 6.05%.

The price of an ounce of gold was $1,915 at 1513GMT, down 1.82% for the day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $98.62 per barrel for a daily loss of 7.75%.
