ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that at least one person was killed and 26 others were injured in a Russian airstrike on the country’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.

"The number of people injured in the Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia has increased to 26. Among the injured are four children, all of which are hospitalized," Governor Ivan Fedorov said on Telegram.

Earlier, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said several nine-story buildings and an educational institution were damaged in the attack.

It said emergency workers extinguished a fire and initiated search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed on X that guided bombs were used to strike the city, and also reported airstrikes on other cities including Kharkiv, Odesa, and Sumy.

"All of this is deliberate Russian terror that can be stopped with a single order, an order in Russia and for the Russian army. Easter proved that when there were no air raid alerts in Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine, he added, proposed to extend the ceasefire after Easter, and that its proposal to halt strikes on civilian infrastructure also remained on the table.

"What’s needed is genuine readiness from Russia to engage in this conversation. There are and will be no impasses on the Ukrainian side," he added.

Russian authorities did not immediately comment on the attack.

Zaporizhzhia is 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the front line with Moscow and has been frequently hit by airstrikes during the three-year-long war in Ukraine.
