US-bound Philippines flight makes emergency landing in Japan after smoke detected
Boeing 777 air vessel was on its way to Los Angeles with 355 passengers

ISTANBUL (AA) - A Philippine Airlines plane bound for the US made an emergency landing in Japan on Thursday after smoke was detected.
The flight, which departed on Wednesday, was "diverted to Haneda Airport due to initial findings of smoke emitting from 1 of 2 air conditioning units," local daily Philstar reported, citing the airline.
The Boeing 777 aircraft was carrying 355 passengers and landed safely.
Passengers on the flight said the smoke inside the cabin started before they reached the Tokyo airport.
The passengers were evacuated from the plane.
