US durable goods orders jump 5.6% in December 2022, more than estimate

ISTANBUL (AA) – US durable goods orders jumped more than 5.6% in December 2022, coming much higher than market estimate, according to official data released Thursday.

New orders for manufactured durable goods rose $15.3 billion, or 5.6%, to $286.9 billion last month, the US Commerce Department’s Census Bureau said in a report.

This marked the fourth monthly increase for the figure in the past five months.

The market estimate for the figure was to show a gain of 2.5% in December, following a 1.7% decline in November last year.

"Excluding defense, new orders increased 6.3 percent," the report said. "Transportation equipment, also up four of the last five months, drove the increase, $15.5 billion or 16.7 percent to $108.1 billion."

Excluding transportation, however, new orders decreased 0.1% in December from the previous month, it added.
