US, Jordanian armies discuss regional security, military relations
US CENTCOM chief Jordan’s army commander in Amman
By Ahmed Asmar
US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Michael Erik Kurilla held talks in Amman on Sunday with Jordanian army commander Yousef Al-Hnaity to discuss regional developments and bilateral military relations.
A CENTCOM statement said Kurilla and Hnaity discussed "the evolving security situation in the region, deepening the bilateral defense relationship between the US and Jordan, and further expanding the military-to-military relationship with the JAF (Jordanian army)."
The statement called the Jordanian army "a steadfast and reliable strategic partner for peace and stability in the region."
Affirming Jordan’s position as "a critical partner in the region" and in fighting the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist group, Kurilla said the kingdom's "efforts are vital to regional stability."
There was no immediate statement from the Jordanian army on the talks
Despite US President Donald Trump's claim that ISIS was completely defeated years ago, CENTCOM argues that the terrorist group remains a regional and global threat and vowed to continue efforts to dismantle its networks.
