US, Malaysia discuss defense, maritime security cooperation

ANKARA (AA) - The US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth met Sunday with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss defense and maritime security cooperation, Malaysian media reported.

The meeting was held on the fringes of Shangri-La Dialogue, a prestigious annual security summit, in Singapore, according to state-run news agency Bernama.​​​​​​​

Anwar said on Facebook that the meeting touched on efforts to enhance cooperation in defense and maritime security.

Anwar also received a courtesy call from Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson.

“We took the opportunity to discuss maritime security, asset modernisation and investment in education. We also explored collaboration with local industry players in training, strategic cooperation and the development of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem,” Anwar said in his post.

Both meetings reflect Malaysia’s growing relevance in the regional and global defense landscape, he added.
