US man sentenced to 30 years for plot to kill Muslims

WASHINGTON (AA) – A U.S. man was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release for plotting to kill Muslim-Americans with a weapon of mass destruction.

A jury convicted Glendon Scott Crawford, 52, of Galway, New York last year of attempting to produce and use a mobile x-ray device to kill Muslims.

Crawford was plotting to use the device to expose victims to fatal levels of radiation, prosecutors said.

"This case shows both the dangers we face from extremist views, and our resolve to stop those who plan to act on those views," U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian said in a statement.

"Crawford planned to kill Muslims on account of their religion and other people whose political and social beliefs he disagreed with," he added.

Crawford is a self-professed member of the Ku Klux Klan, according to the Justice Department. He directly solicited the white supremacist group for funding to help carry out the plot, it added.
