US new home sales reach 743,000 in April, exceeding expectations

New house sales rise 10.9% monthly and 3.3% yearly in April, according to US Census Bureau data

ISTANBUL (AA) - New home sales in the US reached 743,000 units in April, exceeding market forecasts, according to US Census Bureau data released on Friday.

The markets expected the figure to come in at 694,000 for the month.

The figure rose 10.9% month-on-month in April compared to March's downwardly revised rate of 670,000 units.

Meanwhile, the number of houses sold in April also jumped 3.3% on a yearly basis from April 2024's figure of 719,000.

The agency said the median sales price of new houses in April was $407,200 and the average sales price was $518,400.

Meanwhile, building permits, a key indicator of market demand, dropped 4% from the previous month, totaling 1.422 million in April.

Still, the figure exceeded market expectations of 1.412 million.
