US soldier killed in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - A U.S. military soldier was killed while two others were wounded during operations against al-Shabaab militants in southern Somalia, the American military said Friday.

The incident occurred on Thursday 64 kilometers (40 miles) west of the capital Mogadishu, near the town of Barii.

There was no comment from the al-Shabaab group regarding the killings of the U.S. soldier in Lower Shabelle region.

Last April, the U.S. said it was sending dozens of troops to Somalia to train forces fighting al-Shabaab militants.
