US, South Korea to hold cybersecurity talks this week

2-day Cyber Cooperation Working Group set to meet on Monday and Tuesday

ANKARA (AA) — The US and South Korea will hold two days of working-level talks on cybersecurity this week in Seoul as part of efforts "to counter evolving North Korean threats from multiple domains," South Korea's Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

The eighth session of the director-general-level Cyber Cooperation Working Group is set to take place Monday and Tuesday, which marks the first in-person session in four years following a hiatus caused largely by the COVID-19 pandemic, local Yonhap news agency reported.

The two allies plan to discuss their cybersecurity policies, current trends of cyber threats, and joint efforts to strengthen cybersecurity training.

"The two sides expect the two defense authorities can work to further strengthen their cybersecurity cooperation mechanism through the upcoming session," the ministry said in a press release.

Launched in 2014 to serve as a venue for the allies' key discussions on cybersecurity, the working group's outcomes have been dealt with at the two countries' annual defense ministerial talks, called the Security Consultative Meeting.
