US stock exchanges mixed Friday

VIX volatility index falls 2.5% to 16.04

ISTANBUL (AA) — US stock exchanges opened mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones rose 14 points, or 0.5%, to 34.490 at 11.45 am EDT (1545GMT).

The S&P 500, on the other hand, was down nine points, or 0.21%, to 4,361.

Meanwhile, the Nasdaq decreased 86 points, or 0.65%, to 13,230.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 2.5% to 16.04, while the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.2% to 4.206%.

The dollar index shed 0.1% to 103.09 and the euro rose 0.2% to $1.0922 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.1% to $1,891 per ounce and silver increasing 0.5% to $22.74.

Oil prices were up around 0.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.31 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.67.
