US stocks end in green; S&P hits record

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks ended Wednesday in the green, before chip maker Nvidia, the world's biggest company by market value, released financial results.

The Dow added 0.32%, or 146.98 points, to close at 45,565.05.

The S&P 500 rose 0.24%, or 15.44 points, to a new record of 6,481.38.

The Nasdaq gained 0.21%, or 45.87 points, to close at 21,590.14.

Shares of Nvidia, which account for roughly 8% of the S&P 500 and have the biggest weight in the benchmark, were little changed.

The chipmaker has beaten earnings expectations in 11 of the past 12 quarterly reports.

President Donald Trump's unprecedented decision to remove Fed Board Governor Lisa Cook from the central bank's board has mostly been ignored by the market, as US stocks ended Tuesday's trading session with minimal movement.

Meanwhile, New York Fed President John Williams stressed that the Fed’s independence is important as Trump moved to fire Cook.

“Personally, I have worked with Lisa Cook as she’s been a member of the Board of Governors, and she’s always brought integrity and commitment to the central bank’s mission," Williams said in an interview with the CNBC business network.
